The most common type of decking is made from pine. It is pressure treated to protect against rot and decay. It is by far the most economical timber to use. Annual treatment is recommended to ensure protection against rot and decay. Redwood and Cedar decking are softwood but contain natural oils that help prevent against rot and decay. They are untreated and if left will fade to a ‘silver’ colour. Treatment can be once every 3 years, more often if you want to keep the natural wood colour. Hardwoods, such as Oak and Mahogany, are extremely hard and durable and naturally resistant to rot and decay. They are more difficult to work with and is the most expensive timber decking type.
Timber decking offer a natural look that can be used for traditional, contemporary and modern gardens. It can be treated to any colour or stain available to suit your requirement. Additional structures, such as pergola’s, gazebos and handrails, can be built to increase the ‘wow’ factor of the decking.
